The Hawai’i Island HALE (Hawai‘i Alliance for a Local Economy) is a part of the Hawai‘i statewide chapter of BALLE (Business Alliance for Local Living Economies). We operate under the umbrella of Sustain Hawaii, a Hawaii-based 501-c-3.

HALE was recently formed with the intention of creating an alliance of local businesses, non-profits, government, community leaders and residents who believe that local, independent businesses are the foundation of a local living economy. HALE current has a grant contract with County of Hawaii, Office of Research and Development to develop a “Think Local First” Campaign.

Applicant must have strong communication and organizational skills, be very dependable, determined and develop positive relations with potential clients. This would be a great opportunity for a business major looking to gain experience with sales, have the opportunity to grow a magazine and earn some dollars while doing so. This can lead to full time position for the right candidate. Flexible hours (can work around your school schedule or other).

A 4 - Step Approach to Career Success

The UHH CoBE introduces a 4 – Step Career Development Program Exclusively for College of Business and Economics majors and minors.


STEP 1: Resume Writing and Interviewing Skills Workshop – Thursday, March 31, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. (Campus Center 301)

Do you think the resume you created in your business writing course will hold up to the scrutiny of prospective employers in the field in which you are interested AND distinguish you from the rest of the pack? Do you know it takes to make a positive impression on a prospective employer at a job or internship fair or what questions you can expect in an interview? If you answered no to either of these questions, then you owe it to yourself to attend this important session featuring HR professionals, professional recruiters, and CoBE Alumni.


STEP 2: Career Exploration - Speed Dating Style – Thursday, April 7, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. (Campus Center 301)


Have you figured out what you want to do when you graduate? Are you looking for some personal advice about which career option to consider or where to look for an opportunity in your field? The career exploration event is based on the 'speed dating' model, where you spend a short period of time (approximately 7 minutes) interacting with professionals from a broad range of industries and professions. It's a great way to learn about different career fields while starting relationships with members of the local business community.

STEP 3: CoBE Job and Internship Fair - Thursday, April 14, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. (Campus Center Dining Room).


UH-Hilo's first college only job fair will feature approximately 20+ employers offering a wide array of internships and full time positions from the for-profit and non-profit sectors. Admission is limited to:

College of Business and Economics Majors and Minors: Bring your student ID, as your name will verified against a list of current CoBE Majors and Minors.

Those in Professional Dress: Come dressed in business casual attire. Ladies must be dressed in skirt or slacks, a blouse, and professional shoes (no flip flops). Gentlemen are required to wear slacks (chinos are fine), a collared shirt, and close toed shoes.

Those with a Resume In Hand:An up to date resume featuring your competencies and work experience is a necessary component for presenting yourself to employers in a professional manner. It shows that you cared enough to prepare and puts you in a position for a follow up meeting or interview.

Monitor this website and our facebook page (UH Hilo CoBe Career Development Exchange) leading up to the day of the event for important updates on employer participants and position descriptions. Commitments thus far have come from organizations including: Enterprise Rent A Car, Bank of Hawaii, Target, Island Naturals, The County of Hawaii, Verizon Wireless, The YWCA, Big Island Film Board, HFS Federal Credit Union, Hawaii Island Gourmet, Hilton Grand Vacations, and Consumer Service Analysis Inc.

STEP 4: CoBE Alumni Association Networking Event – Thursday, April 14, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., (Campus Center 301)

Would you like to make critical connections with CoBE alumni holding important leadership positions in the local community? This event following the CoBE Job and Internship Fair helps you to accomplish that goal. Bring your resume and/or business cards to build relationships that will help you in the future. A $10 cover charge will be collected to cover the cost of pupus and beverages.
